    Houston wedding and portrait photographers

Michael Carr, CPP, and Lisa Carr, CPP, are well known for event coverage for weddings and wedding portraiture such as engagement portraits and bridal portraiture. Many of the weddings we have photographed have been published in magazines such as Weddings in Houston, The Knot, Modern Luxury and InStyle Weddings. Having personally photographed over 500 weddings, our style of coverage has led us to many venues around Houston. Several clients have also contracted us to travel and join their families as their destination wedding photographer.

Houston wedding and portrait photographers, Michael and Lisa Carr, CPP, recently traveled to photograph Kelli & Jeff’s wedding photography in San Antonio, TX. The fun wedding weekend started on Friday, when we photographed their Rehearsal Dinner at Hotel Emma. You can read more about Kelli & Jeff’s Rehearsal Dinner here.

On the day of her wedding, Kelli and her bridesmaids spent their morning having their makeup and hair done at the hotel. We documented Kelli getting ready as well as Jeff getting ready at The St. Anthony Hotel. Their wedding ceremony was across the street at Travis Park United Methodist Church. After the ceremony, guests walked over to The St. Anthony Hotel to enjoy the reception. Kelli & Jeff’s reception was held on the first floor of the St. Anthony. Guests were able to go ballroom to ballroom and enjoy the band, décor, and even a lounge area. The lounge area décor complimented the hotel and the entire wedding décor. Florals for the wedding were by DeVinnie’s Paradise. The band was Blind Date Austin. They did a wonderful job with entertainment and the guests danced non-stop throughout the reception. Lisa and her team with Haute Weddings, San Antonio did a wonderful job coordinating the wedding.

Houston Bridal Portrait Photographer, Michael Carr (CPP), captured this contemporary bridal portrait in his Houston commercial portrait studio. The objective of the bridal portrait session was to capture a mixture of full length, three quarter length poses and seated poses for the bride’s portrait collection. During the capture phase of the seated poses, Michael’s creative eye saw this pose as a black & white portrait. After adjusting the studio lighting for more of a dramatic effect, this scene was created and a stunning contemporary black & white bridal portrait was captured.

Some of the advantages of having your portrait in studio versus outdoors is that you do not need to contend with rainy weather or humidity. Both Houston weather challenges typically produce windy or frizzy hair; not to mention makeup adjustments for perspiration. Our Houston studio is also equipped with a luxurious changing room so you can easily change into your wedding gown with indoor comfort.

Michael Carr Photography is a full service portrait studio specializing in timeless and contemporary portraiture. The studio is conveniently located in a professional commercial building close to the Houston Galleria, and the Memorial area. Our full service studio helps you with every aspect for your portrait session. We provide clothing consultations and pre-planning for your portrait to help create a beautiful heirloom final wall art piece for your home. We also guide you during your order appointment to help you select the correct portrait and size the portrait proportionally for the area in your home it will reside. Our studio can be reached at 713-461-2862, and you can view more of our Bridal Portraits, Family Portraits, and Executive Portraits by visiting our online portfolio.

Congratulations to Lynette and Rowdy on their wedding celebration. Their wedding was selected to be featured within a national publication: Inside Weddings.

We met Lynette when we photographed her sister’s wedding a few years earlier. It was great to work with this family again and capture many beautiful moments for them.

Lynette and her Mom worked closely with their event planner, Ann Whittington, to pull all the vendors and details together. The challenge for all the vendors was to make Lynette’s wedding look different than her sister’s wedding, even though they were using the same venue and some of the same vendors as they did for her sister’s wedding. You can read all about the details of Lynette and Rowdy’s wedding in the current issue of Inside Weddings.

To the family, Thank you for entrusting us with the photography of your daughter’s Bridal Portraits and Wedding. To learn more about our portrait and wedding photography services, please visit our site here or call the studio at 713-461-2862 to schedule a personal consultation.

If you visit our websites often, you may have seen a new logo or professional designation by our names: CPP. What is a CPP? What does that really mean? CPP stands for Certified Professional Photographer. Certification is only granted by Professional Photographers of America (PPA), the world’s largest non-profit association organized for professional photographers. Michael Carr, CPP, and Lisa Carr, CPP, recently both earned this professional designation. We had to pass a written question test, as well as submit a portfolio or body of work for review. The portfolios had to demonstrate specific lighting, posing, color balance, and harmony in our photographs. In February 2016, over 80 photographers submitted their portfolios, and only 50% passed and earned the CPP designation. To maintain this credential, we have to re-certify every 3 years. This process insures photographers remain current in our photographic field and current in our craft.
PPA includes additional info on the CPP standard and you can read about that below:

“These days, photography is practiced by anyone with a smartphone, but it’s mastered by few. When it comes to those once-in-a-lifetime moments—when you’ve got one shot at getting it right—you better make sure the person behind the camera is a pro. A proven professional photographer that is.

There’s no greater proof than when the letters “CPP” follow a photographer’s name. They designate a Certified Professional Photographer, someone who is putting in the extra work to stay above the rest. It assures you of this photographer’s professional knowledge and experience, while also declaring that photographer as one who has achieved and maintains a higher standard.

See the Difference Certified Professional Photographers Make

Consistency. CPPs know how to achieve great results—every time. You get a strong collection of images that tell your story, not a few lucky snapshots, and you will work with someone who knows how to produce a quality image under any circumstances.

Technical Skills. CPPs are more than picture takers. They are students of art, lighting, posing, fashion and even interior design. They combine these elements to create images that fit your unique style and become works of art you will treasure for generations.

Unique Artistry. CPPs have the skills to create unique, customized works of art—not cookie-cutter pictures. They follow an artistic vision. It’s your story captured as a collection of art.

Professionalism. When you hire a CPP, you know you’re getting someone who is willing to go the extra mile to deliver the best possible images. They are business owners who thrive on customer service and satisfaction, and they continuously aim to produce products that exceed your—and their—best expectations. These images are keepsakes whose stories you’ll tell time and time again and treasure forever.

Just about anyone can take a good picture every now and then. But when life’s biggest moments are unfolding and there’s just one chance to capture that perfect memory, don’t risk it. Entrust your photography needs to a Certified Professional Photographer and see the difference for yourself.”

Houston Wedding Photographers

Houston wedding and portrait photographers, Michael and Lisa Carr, recently photographed Lynette & Rowdy’s outdoor wedding. We met Lynette a few years ago when we photographed her sister’s wedding, and hit it off immediately.
Lynette & Rowdy love the outdoors and knew that Houston Oaks would be the perfect venue for their outdoor ceremony and reception, plus there is enough room there to accommodate her 1000+ guest that were attending. They contacted Ann Whittington to plan and coordinate this wedding. Their ceremony was under a huge oak tree that was adorned with tons of roses and flowers on the branches. After the ceremony, guests moved to the tented cocktail area, then over to the outdoor reception under the lights. Suspended over the dance floor was a custom floral and Einstein light bulb arrangement. Plants n Petals and their team handled the décor and florals. The guests were able to dine on custom tables made especially for this outdoor reception on the lawn. Each leg on each table had to be individually adjusted so the table would be level on the ground for the guests to dine comfortably. Talk about attention to detail required! The trees and dancefloor all had custom lighting to give a warm and beautiful nighttime ambiance. The guests danced non-stop all through the evening under the stars. After the last dance, guests gave Lynette and Rowdy a rose petal send off and then watched a custom fireworks show on the golf course before they departed in a personal helicopter. Talk about a one of a kind, spectacular wedding event! All the guests have commented that this was a fairytale wedding. Yes, it certainly was!
